Both providers split their tariffs exactly here, and it is the question that moves the monthly price most. With a device in the contract you pay it off over the term – the amount on the invoice then says little about whether the tariff itself is cheap. If you keep your phone or buy it outright, we compare the plain SIM tariffs, and the picture often looks different.
Prepaid means no commitment, no invoice, stop whenever you like. In return you pay more per gigabyte almost every time. A contract is cheaper but ties you down for a while. Which side weighs more does not depend on the price but on how predictable your next year is – that is what we ask about first.
Three things cost money regularly because nobody asks about them on their own. First, age: both run their own youth tariffs, and the age limit is higher than many believe. Second, the second SIM card in the household – from the second card on one invoice both give a discount, and that often saves more than switching tariff at all. Third, internet at home: taken together it costs less at both than taken separately.
